Barburrito and The Restaurant Group to open airport restaurants

Barburrito has partnered with Frankie & Benny’s and Chiquito operator The Restaurant Group (TRG) in a deal that will see the burrito chain expand into airports.

The partnership will see the launch of a range of new made-to-order breakfast items that will “offer busy commuters and holiday makers an alternative to standard pre-packaged items.”

Airport catering has changed beyond recognition over the last decade or so. Casual dining brands are increasingly seeing the value in trading airside and high-profile chefs are also getting in on the act.

Late last year, Gordon Ramsay announced a fast casual spin-off of his Plane Food restaurant in Heathrow that he hopes to open in airports across the world and Bruno Loubet, Jamie Oliver and Heston Blumenthal have also opened airport restaurants.

Barburrito launched the UK’s first burrito bar in 2005 in Manchester. The company currently operates 21 sites across 10 cities in the UK.

“With an established operating model working across 21 locations, we felt that it was time to explore a franchise operation with a sector leader in this space. We hope to be announcing our first airport location soon,” says Barburrito founder and CEO Morgan Davies.

Backed by growth capital provider, BGF, Barburrito is the largest burrito bar brand outside of London and turned over £15m last year.
