#NotAlone campaign launched to tackle mental health issues in drinks trade

Drinks industry charity The Benevolent has launched a campaign that aims to break down the stigma surrounding mental health within the drinks trade.

Its #NotAlone campaign provides the trade with mental health information via print and digital resources, to stimulate an open conversation on the issue of mental health.

According to The Benevolent, one in four people will experience mental health issues this year.

“The campaign aims to encourage members of the trade to speak freely about mental health issues within the workplace, creating a stigma-free environment, reminding both employers and employees that The Benevolent is here with professionals at hand who can help you,” it says.

The charity has also commissioned a survey for members of the drinks trade in order to understand mental health difficulties currently within the trade, as well as existing HR policies to support our colleagues suffering from these difficulties.

It will use information gleaned from the survey to create a framework that can offer drinks companies advice on the best methods for dealing with issues of mental health among their workforce.

The issue of mental health in the hospitality sector is coming under the spotlight this year. Andrew Clarke, head chef of Brunswick House in Vauxhall, London, and Doug Sanham, sous chef at The Beacon in Royal Tunbridge Wells, are soon to launch Pilot Light, a campaign devoted to combating the stigma associated with depression, mental health and addiction within hospitality.
