New chapter: Tom Sellers reveals details for relaunch of Restaurant Story
Tom Sellers’ relaunched Restaurant Story will feature a new style of service when it opens its doors this spring, and the price of its most involved tasting menu will rise to £145.

The restaurant is closing on 31 March to undergo its first refurbishment since it launched in 2013.

Reopening on 8 May, the Tooley Street restaurant will have a new and “refined” guest experience, whereby diners will no longer be given a menu upon arrival.

Tables will be treated individually, allowing each diner to have their own “bespoke story”.

Much of the food and drink preparation will be performed in the dining room in front of diners, using drinks trolleys and tableside food preparation stations.

Interiors by Raven Collective, the design team behind restaurants including Trinity in Clapham and Ben’s Canteen, will focus on the dining room. Textured materials will be introduced by the way of tablecloths, curved seating and glazed window panels. A ceiling installation will be installed, featuring swallows taking flight by artist Michelle McKinney.

Music will be curated by the dance music band Rudimental, who are friends of the chef.

“It is important that the physical space within Story reflects the way that my team and my style of cooking have developed over the years,” says Sellers.

“I was very fortunate, but very young, when Story first opened, and I’m excited to look to the future and bring an entirely different experience to our guests.”

When it reopens, Story will offer a choice of two menus per service- for lunch, diners will have the option of £50 for five courses or £100 for eight courses, and for dinner the options are £125 for 10 courses or £145 for 12 courses.

Whilst Restaurant Story is undergoing its refurbishment, Sellers is hosting a three-week Robin Hood-themed pop up down the road in Tanner Street.
